Christians Must Promote True Love Throughout The World
(Passage: 1 Peter 5)
Every Christian is expected to promote the true love that honors God. Believers must care for each other dearly as Christ has cared and died for the Church.
The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ symbolize the true love of Christ (unconditional love). Before he ascended to heaven, Christ charged his disciples with the prime commandment: “Have true love one another.”
The “Love commandment” of Christ has no exemption. As he loved the church to the extent of dying for it, so we must love God and have true love for others. Doing so will attract unbelievers and motivate them to become followers of Jesus Christ as well.
Jesus’ call for true love was reiterated by Peter as written in the scripture,
“Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time” (1 Peter 5:5-6).
Put Effort Into Loving Others; Expects Rewards.
Children of God are called to truly love and promote unity in the fold of Christ.
To meet this mandate, believers must be honest with one another.
God expects us to be our brothers’ keepers. We must seek the welfare of other brethren. No Christian should be self-centered and neglect others. We must be mindful of other people’s needs.
Only true love reigns! Imagine, how can someone refers to himself as a good Christian when he (or she) hates his fellow Christians? Also, should any Christian seeks the downfall of others and expects God to applaud him? Will God be satisfied when any acclaimed Christian abuses his brothers and sisters in Christ? God forbid!
Let’s Examine Christ’s Principle on the Call for True Love
Jesus Christ was firm and was consistent with his teaching that asks believers to share true love and support each other. In his teaching, Christ emphasized he would reject hypocritical Christians on the last day.
Jesus who calls believers into a true love of God (and to truly love others) stated he will not open the gate of his kingdom to people who fail to practice true love. Only the people with unbiased love will have a place in God’s kingdom. (Matthew 25:41-46).
The Call to Action
- Anyone who claims to be a true child of God must be honest in his practices. He must meet the holiness standard of God at all costs!
- A Christian who is in love with God must share the good news of his faith with others so that they can also have the opportunity to be saved.
A true Christian is expected to understand that Christ came to save the world; therefore, the mandate to share the gospel with others must weigh heavily on his mind.
(Preach Christ to others so that they can have the opportunity to escape punishment from hellfire.)
Pray For Divine Help To Promote Godly Love
Dear Lord, please help me to demonstrate the true love that you require. Help me to have a true love for my fellow Christians. I also pray for the body of Christ to love each other. Help the brethren to practice the true love that you required. Help us to stop segregation, and help us to stop self-righteousness! Give brethren the strength and grace needed to love each other and spread your gospel so that unbelievers can also become saved. In the end, please count us worthy to inherit your kingdom! For in the name of Jesus Christ, I have prayed. Amen!
