Jesus’s Disciples Flee for Lack of Spiritual Insight
(Passage: Luke 9)
Forewarned is forearmed; the disciples of Jesus missed the waring to follow to be spiritually alert and prepare for the forthcoming attack of the Pharisees. The lack of sensitivity caused them to run into hiding when the trying moment came.
Jesus Christ had warned his disciples to prepare for the persecution to come. According to Jesus, the offense was inevitable; disciples must watch and pray.
The disciples lacked insight and failed to make adequate preparation. Therefore, they got confused and deserted Jesus, when they ought to have acted differently.
What could the disciples of Jesus have done differently? They ought to have listened to the Master’s warning by watching and waiting through prayers.
Jesus earlier warned,
“Let these words sink down into your ears, for the Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men.”
“But they did not understand this saying, and it was hidden from them so that they did not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask Him about this saying” (Luke 9:44-45).
The disciples of Jesus completely lost the consciousness of standing in the gap Jesus, instead, they acted in complete error.
The disciples engaged in seniority contest and nurse personal conflicts. The scripture explained some actions of Jesus’s disciples,
“Then a dispute arose among them as to which of them would be greatest. And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a little child and set him by Him, and said to them, “Whoever receives this little child in my name receives me; and whoever receives me receives Him who sent me. For he who is least among you all will be great” (Luke 9:46-47).
Christians Must Be Spiritual And Sensitive At All Times
Believers ought to understand that we cannot observe Christianity in carnality. We must be spiritually alert and address every situation by the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
The spiritual exercises that Christians engage in must include prayer and fasting to become spiritually sensitive to overcome the vices of Satan.
Indeed, Christians must be careful not to allow Satan to use the cares of this world to snatch our spiritual values.
Christians must not allow Satan to manipulate us into compromising our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Christians need the strength of God through the Holy Spirit to overcome persecutions, trials, and temptations.
Some trying moments will rise to challenge people of faith, but we must ensure not to compromise our stand in the Lord!
Christians must not give in to the will of the enemies. We must find motivation in the Bible which is the word of God.
We can be encouraged with different Bible verses like the one that states,
“In this world you will have tribulations but be of good shares I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
Children of God have the mandate to stand firm in the Lord and refute Satan and his cohorts.
“Our weapons of warfare are not carnal but they are strong in God to overcome Satan and his forces. (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).”
Christians will overcome any challenge with prayer, fasting, and faith exercise. The scripture states,
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).
Pray For God’s Help To Remain Spiritual and Sensitive
Dear God, please help me to be spiritually sensitive to operate under the guidance of the Holy Spirit so that I can live an overcomer’s life! Please, help me to be spiritual and sensitive. Help me to seek your face in prayer and fasting so that I can overcome any life situations and remain worthy of your kingdom. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
