Have you ever been faced with a challenge that seemed too much for you to overcome? Are you passing through a phase today where people tend to think there is no way out for you?
I have good news for you! All you need to overcome such will be discussed in this episode.
On a certain day, a little boy, David was faced with an impossible-to-overcome challenge. It happened that war broke out between Israel and the Philistines as seen in the seventh chapter of the book, Bible Giants of Faith.
David’s brothers were enlisted in the army to defend their land. On the day of the war, David’s father, Jesse, sent him to visit his brothers on the battle line.
When David got there, he saw and heard one giant man called Goliath harassing the Israelites and cursing the name of God.
David got angry at the giant’s outburst and he wanted to challenge the giant to a fight for the Lord’s sake. David said to his people,
“Who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” (1 Samuel 17:26).
So many people tried to persuade him, including King Saul. But David was so adamant that he was eventually left to face Goliath.
When Goliath saw this, he was furious. How could they send such a weakling to confront him? But David was not moved by him. He stood before Goliath and said,
“You come against me with sword and spear and javelin but I come against you in the name of the Lord whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel” (1 Samuel 17:45-46).
See that? What audacity!
David trusted not in his armor (he actually had none) nor in his weapon, but in God who can do the impossible!
The most shocking part was that this boy was going to fight Goliath with his slingshot and a bag containing five stones. Slingshot and five stones! To kill a giant? Can that even kill a dog?
Surprisingly and against all odds, David killed Goliath with a sling and a stone.
After this event, David became a national pride, so much that King Saul soon became jealous and wanted to kill him. David had to run for his life and lived in caves and jungles until King Saul died many years later.
God’s plan eventually was fulfilled when David was crowned the official king of Israel.
David was a successful king of Israel.
What can we make of this man’s story?
David had absolute faith that God was strong enough to help him kill Goliath, who had everything to his advantage. He slew him by passing the battle unto God. He knew nothing is impossible.
That situation that seemed impossible was overcome because God was involved. That is the same way God takes care of all battles passed on to him.
No matter how hard or difficult the situation seems today, all you need to be victorious is to trust in the Lord.
