In previous posts on the episode series of Who Was Jesus, Really? We discussed the development stages of Jesus’ life. We discussed in the last episode, how Jesus Christ performed his first miracle by turning water to wine at a wedding party. Then, he was a boy but now, a man!
Going forward, we will address Jesus as a man in a full-flesh of his ministry. So, let’s begin by discussing a vital aspect of his ministry – The prayer life of Jesus!
(Remember, this episode series run is being adapted from the book Who Was Jesus, Really? – Book One.Consider to get your copy here!)
Our Lord’s Prayer
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, had the habit of performing miracles and doing good things for people; but that’s not all we can learn about him. He also had a very strong prayer life!
Jesus had the habit of getting withdraw from his busy life to pray on the mountain. He even sometimes sneaked out at night (while his disciples were sleeping) to have a good quiet time with God on the mountain. (Quiet time means a prayer time).
Yeah, of course, Jesus’ disciples weren’t stupid! They realized their master was busy praying while they were busy sleeping, so they decided to do something about it.😇
The disciples knew their master-Jesus often sneaked to pray in a quiet place, so they were also ready to make the best of their discovery! The disciples did something very important. C’mon keep reading and let’s find out…✌️
Jesus’ disciples (Peter, James, John, Matthew, Bartholomew, and others) knew the secret of their master’s success. They knew he has so much power and authority because of his strong prayer life!
Guess what? 🤔 Those disciples wanted to be like Jesus. They asked him to teach them how to pray. Can you blame them? (I wouldn’t blame them either 😀 ).
You can imagine the disciples indirectly asking “Master, tell us the secret of your power!”
Of course, Jesus didn’t hesitate to share the power-engine with his followers. He taught them how to pray!
The sample prayer that Jesus gave his disciples is what the Christian community now refers to as “The Lord’s Prayer” or “Our Lord’s Prayer.”
Here is the Lord’s Prayer as copied from the Bible (Matthew 6:9-13 NKJV). Jesus said:
In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come.Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer is such a pattern of prayer that mentions everything we need to say and do to get God meets our needs.
Our Lord’s Prayer guarantees that your prayer would be answered each time you call unto God.
The Focus of Our Lord’s Prayer
The Lord’s Prayer points the attention of Christians to things that are most important in life. Some of them are mentioned here:
Children of God must give thanks to God.
Children of God must forgive others.
Christians must ask God to forgive our sins. (If we want God to forgive our sins and answer our prayers, we must forgive others also.)
Don’t think God can’t answer your prayer. Never think your problem is too difficult for God to handle! God can answer your prayers if you call on him. He will do whatever you ask him if you can ask in faith, and your request is within his will for you!
God, who is always interested to answer your prayer, wants you to pray to him always.
