ACTIVE DECISIONS OVERCOME CHALLENGES – Nehemiah

decisions

Faith In God Delivers Us From Challenges

(Passage: Nehemiah 4)

You can’t completely escape challenges in this world, but be sure you will overcome if you are a child of God.

Believers must have confidence in God that we serve. We must make efforts through prayer and fasting to stop our opponents, and not allow them to keep us down. We serve God who has all the powers to take control of any situation.

Of course, a Christian should not fold hands in idleness and still expect to have victory. We have to bravely think and act.

Children of God must not hesitate to take any action as it honors God and necessary to confront our challenges. As we take the step, we must have the assurance that God is on our side to earn us victory.

Let’s learn from the Bible men who took courage to forge ahead in spite of the challenges they faced:

Two rebel leaders in the Bible, Sanballat and Tobiah challenged Nehemiah who wanted to glorify God by rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem (A ruined city once dedicated to God’s honor).

Sanballat and Tobiah did all they could to stop the rebuild efforts, but they failed.

Part of the effort from Sanballat and Tobiah includes mockery and false accusations. None of those efforts stuck, because Nehemiah and his people prayed and were determined to do the will of God.

The scripture reported how Sanballat and Tobiah attacked Nehemiah and his men on the mission to repair Jerusalem’s wall:

“But it so happened, when Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, that he was furious and very indignant, and mocked the Jews. And he spoke before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, “What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they fortify themselves? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they complete it in a day? Will they revive the stones from the heaps of rubbish—stones that are burned?” Now Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and he said, “Whatever they build, if even a fox goes up on it, he will break down their stone wall” (Nehemiah 4:1-3).

No Opposition Can Derail God’s Children In Their Decisions

Nehemiah and his men summon the courage to keep working for God. They were determined not to yield to enemies’ pressure. (Of course, expect they also prayed!)

Nehemiah and his men prayed and acted against their enemies; they stood to defend themselves, and they had good success.

Nehemiah said in his prayers:

“Hear, O our God, for we are despised; turn their reproach on their own heads, and give them as plunder to a land of captivity! Do not cover their iniquity, and do not let their sin be blotted out from before you; for they have provoked you to anger before the builders…

Therefore I (Nehemiah) Positioned men behind the lower parts of the wall, at the openings; and I set the people according to their families, with their swords, their spears, and their bows. And I looked, and arose and said to the nobles, to the leaders, and to the rest of the people, “Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, great and awesome, and fight for your brethren, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your houses” (Nehemiah 4:4-5; Nehemiah 4:13-14).

Trust In God and You Shall Conquer Every Challenge

Be prepared: Christian opposition like Sanballat and Tobiah will sometimes come around to frustrate the efforts of God’s children. We must be prepared not to let them succeed.

The enemies may mount oppositions that are not limited to physical and spiritual assault; their ultimate goal is to make God’s children compromise their stand with God. But will they win? No, they won’t win if we are prayerful and are determined in our positive decisions.

The more we prepare, the better our victory will become. The enemies don’t encourage good ventures. They are all out for evil, so we must be prayerful and sensitive.

Be sensitive not to allow your enemies to fulfill their mission. Identify the enemies’ scheme, be prayerful, and make a godly tactical decision to stop them.

Ask God for the grace to trust him and he will surely help you overcome any dire situation.

Pray For God’s Grace To Make Proactive Decisions.

Dear God, I trust in you and I pray that you will give me the grace and wisdom to appropriately relate to issues of life. Help me to have the wisdom and strength needed to overcome any challenge that enemies may want to bring my way.

Please frustrate anyone who may want to stop my efforts in serving you. Let the generation of Sanballat and Tobiah be defeated in my life!

I receive your grace to remain confident so that I can continue to serve you in Spirit and in truth, as you required.

Please keep me victorious always, and let me ever testify to your goodness. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I make my requests. Amen.

GOD SCOLDED ISRAELITES FOR THEIR PRANK – Hosea

Believers Must Positively Receive God’s Correction

(Passage: Hosea 13)

God rebuked the Israelites for attempting to play a double-standard game with him. Israelites were dishonest in their relationship with God. They only served him for their selfish interest. They returned to idol worship after God has blessed them. Meanwhile, God requires his children to faithfully serve him with an undivided attention. People ought to serve God for who he is, and not for the sake of what they intend to receive from him.

Israelites engaged in a face-worship to receive God’s benefits; they turn their back at him after his has blessed them. Therefore, God promised to punish the people for their hypocritical behaviors. God stated,

“When Ephraim spoke, trembling, He exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended through Baal worship, he died. Now they sin more and more, and have made for themselves molded images, Idols of their silver, according to their skill; all of it is the work of craftsmen. They say of them, “Let the men who sacrifice kiss the calves!” Therefore they shall be like the morning cloud and like the early dew that passes away, like chaff blown off from a threshing floor and like smoke from a chimney. “Yet I am the Lord your God Ever since the land of Egypt, and you shall know no God but Me; for there is no savior besides Me. I knew you in the wilderness, in the land of great drought. When they had pasture, they were filled; They were filled and their heart was exalted; Therefore they forgot Me. “So I will be to them like a lion; Like a leopard by the road I will lurk; I will meet them like a bear deprived of her cubs; I will tear open their rib cage, And there I will devour them like a lion. The wild beast shall tear them” (Hosea 13:1-8).

No Game Playing With God!

A good Christian ought to respond to a godly correction.

A Christian who expects God to go a long way for him must also go a long way for God. Christians must understand that we have an obligation to live in honesty before God. No Christian is allowed to play pranks with God. It will backfire!

Yield to correction: Believers must understand that we cannot deceive God. He knows a person that is honest in his or her relationship with him. Christians must understand that God will reward us if are honest with him.

Christians must not attempt to test God by serving him with the goal of receiving his benefits only. We must faithfully serve God because he deserves it. We must also obey the commandments of God so that he can count us worthy of his kingdom.

Every Christian must faithfully serve God with a sincere heart at all times.

Respond to correction. It is important to emphasize that a Christian should not be an ingrate by keeping a casual relationship God. Jehovah asks his children to shun sin and pursue righteousness. He asks us to walk uprightly before him so that we can enjoy his earthly and heavenly benefits.

Correction leads to blessings.

Let the weak say, “I am strong.” Whoever struggles in his relationship with God should be honest with his or her status and ask God for help. God will grant the request of his children who acknowledge their weaknesses and prayerfully work towards improvement.

Prayer to Yield to Correction an be Consistent With God

Dear God, I stand to be corrected! Please give me the grace to keep an honest relationship with you. Help me to serve you in righteousness so that you can be happy with me. Empower me by the Holy Spirit to respond to your corrections and change. Please, give me the ability to have an unconditional love for you and faithfully serve you in every day of my life. Let my life glorify you on earth so that you can be proud of me in heaven. Please ever keep me worthy of your eternal kingdom O Lord. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.

ISRAEL DEFEATED THEIR REBEL TRIBE – Judges

rebelJudges – Perseverance in Christianity

(Passage: Judges 20)

The tribe of Benjamin rebelled against the remaining eleven tribes of Israel and insinuated a civil war.

The eleven tribes who remained united asked God for a strategy to use against their rebel brothers, and he gave them some specific instructions to follow.

However, United Israel lost the battle because they failed to closely follow their God-given strategy.

Meanwhile, they were not discouraged. They improved on how to follow God’s instruction until they succeeded in their third attempt.

The United Israelites conquered Benjamin’s tribe and brought them to their knees.

The scripture reported how Israelites conquered their revolting Tribe of Benjamin.

It is reported,

“But when the cloud began to rise from the city in a column of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them, and there was the whole city going up in smoke to heaven. And when the men of Israel turned back, the men of Benjamin panicked, for they saw that disaster had come upon them. Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel in the direction of the wilderness; but the battle overtook them, and whoever came out of the cities they destroyed in their midst…

…They surrounded the Benjamites, chased them, and easily trampled them down as far as the front of Gibeah toward the east. And eighteen thousand men of Benjamin fell; all these were men of valor. Then they turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon; and they cut down five thousand of them on the highways…

…Then they pursued them relentlessly up to Gidom, and killed two thousand of them. So all who fell of Benjamin that day were twenty-five thousand men who drew the sword; all these were men of valor” (Judges 20:40-46).

Lesson on Perseverance and Against Rebellion

God still leads people today; he leads his children to take appropriate steps that will benefit their lives.

However, things may sometimes work in contrary when we do not follow God’s instructions to the letter.

Notwithstanding, believers should not be discouraged when they don’t have an expected result.

Christians should summon the courage to understand God’s instructions well and carefully follow them.

We must not hesitate to consult God over and over again until we have an expected solution.

Our heavenly Father will definitely respond to our cries. He will answer our prayers and guide us unto all victories.
