GOD’S COUNSEL IS VITAL FOR GOOD DECISION – Matthew

Ask For Spiritual Guidance When Making A Decision

(Passage: Matthew 14)

Decision making can come easy, it can also be sometimes challenging. It takes God’s guidance for anyone to make crucial decisions that are vital to life. Children of God must not hesitate to consult God at their moments of decision making.

A Christian who wants to make a good decision must be a prayerful person!

Present your thoughts to God through prayers, and be expecting his response.

Not just any consultation with God leads to making a positive decision, a person must also measure up to the standard of God to capture his attention.

God will show the right way and lead you in the right direction if you comply with his holiness standard. Holiness, in terms of living in love, honoring God, and keeping to his rules.

A person whose heart is not towards God will make a poor judgment because he lacks the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

King Herod, in the Bible, couldn’t make the right decision because his mind was not with God. Herod lost his mind during his birthday party; he allowed a little girl to manipulate him into killing John the Baptist (against his intention).

Bible reported;

“But when Herod’s birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod. Therefore, he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask. So she, having been prompted by her mother, said, “Give me John the Baptist’s head here on a platter.”

And the king was sorry; nevertheless, because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he commanded it to be given to her. So he sent and had John beheaded in prison. And his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother.” (Matthew 14:6-11).

Be Prayerful To Make A Good Decision

You are not far from making the right decision if you allowed the Holy Spirit to rule you.

Christians must ensure they are ruled by the Holy Spirit at all times. Instead of allowing our emotions to cloud our judgment to making irrational decisions and making a costly mistake, we can indeed come out as the “best” under the guidance of the Spirit of God.

Indeed, humans are fallible; we are prone to mistakes, and we must rely on the leadership of the Holy Spirit to guide our thoughts and actions to appease God and prosper on earth!

Be careful to evaluate your thoughts and actions so that you can measure up to Bible standards.

Pray For The Guidance Of The Holy Spirit

Dear God, please help me to operate under the leadership of your Holy Spirit so that I can always make decisions that glorify your name. Please do not let me yield to the leadership of flesh so that I won’t sin against you and lose your blessings! Please guide me in making a proper judgment that is not clouded by emotion.

I also pray that you please direct my heart not to follow the counsel of the evil ones! Let my thoughts and actions be coordinated by your Holy Spirit so that I can prosper in every day of my life. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I have made my requests. Amen!

JUDGE NOT, SO YOU WON’T BE JUDGED – Job

judge

Be Careful How You Pass Your Judgment on Others

(Passage: Job 1)

Children of God must remember that we are warned not to pass judgment on other people. Christ said, “Judge not so that you won’t be judged, for in the same ways you judge others, you will be judged.”

To better understand this lesson, let’s learn from how Job’s friends behaved when he was in trouble. They rained judgment on him during his trial.

Elihu, Job’s friend, called him a sinner and argued he wouldn’t have been in his bad situation without some wrongdoings. In short,  Elihu accused Job that he had committed some secret sins which may have lead to his trouble.

Elihu had claimed,

“What man is like Job, Who drinks scorn like water, Who goes in company with the workers of iniquity, and walks with wicked men? For he has said, ‘It profits a man nothing that he should delight in God” (Job 34:7-9).

(Elihu who judged Job wrong was wrong because Job’s trial had nothing to do with his sin – Read Job 1:6-12).

Avoid Judging Others of Wrongdoing When You’re Not Sure

Human beings are prone to passing a quick judgment based on what they hear or how they perceive others. This practice is bad; Christians must not take part in it. We are warned to mind our business; if involved, we are to research issues to establish facts prior to making a concluding statement.

Again, as children of God, we must avoid making an irrational statement based on feelings and casual assessment.

It is honorable to tame our tongues and stay quiet when we don’t have the complete knowledge of a matter. After confirming the fact that surrounds any situation, children of God are still asked not to judge others (Matthew 7:1-6).

Segregation Is Forbidden For Christians

Christians must not segregate others. A good child of God will not stereotype people based on their race, gender, culture, background, or other reasons.

More importantly, a good child of God must be sensitive to meet the needs of others.

You cannot call yourself a child of God and heap the coal of fire on other people’s injuries.

God will bless us if we represent him well by caring for others. He will bless us as we demonstrate good virtues that glorify his name.

Pray For God’s Strength To Avoid Passing Judgment on Others

Dear God, please make me a Christian that is sensitive to the need of other people. Save me from passing judgment on others. Instead of judging, give me the strength to be a source of blessing to their lives.

Give me the grace and strength to contribute love, joy, and peace to others.

Empower me to represent you well in this life so that I can receive your blessings always. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I make my requests. Amen.

SPIRITUALITY ENTAILS FOCUSING ON THE RIGHT THINGS – Psalm

righteous

True Christians Must Focus On Only What Glorifies God

(Passage: Psalm 73)

A psalmist almost collapsed in despair when he saw how wicked people prospered effortlessly. He confessed,

“But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold. For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. They have no struggles; their bodies are healthy and strong” (Psalm 73:2-4).

However, the reality of life was dawned on the psalmist when God showed him what the end of wicked people would be. He stated,

“When I tried to understand all this, it troubled me deeply till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny. Surely you place them on slippery ground; you cast them down to ruin. How suddenly are they destroyed, completely swept away by terrors! They are like a dream when one awakes; when you arise, Lord, you will despise them as fantasies” (Psalm 73:16-20).

The Righteous Will Always Be Rewarded Eternally

Children of God should focus their energy on receiving blessings from God, and not on being envious of wicked people. Wicked people may prosper today, but their prosperity remains temporal. However, the prosperity of righteous people will last a lifetime, and they will also be available in heaven. In addition, the prosperity of righteous people will be transferable from one generation to another; the descendants of righteous people will not suffer! Therefore, everyone who chooses to serve God should aim for righteous riches that have no bitter ending.

Prayer For The Grace To Prioritize Wisely

Dear God, please give me the grace to pursue righteous riches that will last a lifetime. Give me the grace to follow your righteous path, and not envy the wicked people. Help my services be acceptable before you, and let me receive your blessings in this present life, and in heaven also. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I make my requests. Amen.
