A CHRISTIAN MUST BE SPIRITUALLY SENSITIVE – 1 John

Be Sensitive To Differentiate Between A True and False Teaching

(Passage: 1 John 4)

Every child of God must train himself (or herself) to be spiritually sensitive at all times. We must allow the leadership of the Holy Spirit in our lives to understand what the true gospel is. The Spirit of the Lord will also empower us to live by the truth of the word of God.

Hey, not all teachings out there are true; many lack validity in the word of God!

Fake teachers are out there to deceive those who are not sensitive in the word of God.

Any person who is not well-rooted in the word of God will fall victim to false teachings. Also, Christians who are not spiritually sensitive will derail from their faith.

Christianity is not to be merely practiced. It comes with discipline. That is, we must be firm and sensitive with our understanding of the word of God.

A Christian must not be naive to believe just any teaching that he or she hears.

It makes no sense to just believe anything that we hear “in the name of God” without confirming its validity in the Bible!

It is essential that we are sensitive to differentiate heresy from the true word of God.

The Bible warned,

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God:

Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God.

And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world” (1 John 4:1-3).

Keep Your Fire of Faith Burning Rightly

The Bible has warned that a time will come that many people who are in faith will start to fall for false teachings. Many will be deceived.

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables” (2 Timothy 4:3-4).

As a child of God, you have to guide your faith so that you won’t become a victim of false teachers, false prophets, fake pastors, and the like.

Our salvation received through faith in Jesus Christ is very precious, and we can’t afford to yield that to Satan. (Remember that Satan, the thief, is not willing to only steal. He comes to steal, kill, and destroy.)

Be firm as a Christian!

As a child of God, you must understand that Christianity is a firm religion that is consistent with God’s principle.

Christianity is a religion with a sound foundation. This means anyone who claims to be a Christian must know what he or she stands for.

Everyone must understand that Christianity (faith in Jesus Christ) is a religion established to satisfy God’s interest. As believers, we must hold firm to our faith in Jesus Christ without wavering.

What Must A Child of God Avoid To Escape False Teaching?

Avoid any teaching that lacks bases in the scripture. That is, you have the obligation to carefully evaluate any teaching that you receive – This can also come to you in the form of advice, preaching, or prophecy.

Be spiritually alert and ensure to reject whatever comes to you if it does not properly align with the word of God.

A Christian must reject any teaching that only entertains but lacks consistency with the Bible.

God’s principles taught in the Bible must remain our final authority.

Pray For Spiritual Sensitivity

Dear God, I understand there are so many misleading and unbiblical teachings out there. I don’t want to be a victim. Please help me to be spiritually sensitive to know what is right. Help me to engage in personal Bible study to achieve personal spiritual growth.

Please help me to hold firm to the faith. Give me the strength to faithfully serve you unto the end. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I make my requests. Amen.

SAMUEL, A BIBLE GIANT

Bible Giants Of Faith – Episode 5

samuel

This series hasn’t just been an interesting one but one full of inspiring stories of the giants of old. So far we’ve been able to go through the lives of four different leaders (Abraham, Moses, David, and Ruth).

This episode continues the trend as we discuss another great man of faith, as seen in the fifth chapter of the book Bible Giants of Faith by James TaiwoThe direct reference to this story is found in 1 Samuel Chapter 1

Samuel- a prophet and an Israelite legend who kept a consistent relationship with God throughout his life.

Samuel’s life began with Hannah’s very touching scene, praying to God at the tabernacle in Shiloh.

Hannah pleaded with God to allow her to bear a son because she was barren. She prayed vigorously so much to the extent that Prophet Eli, who was passing, thought she was crazy.

Hannah vowed to God (promised) in her prayer that if He allowed her to bear a son, she would dedicate the boy back for His service.

This means the boy would have to serve God all the days of his life.

God answered Hannah’s prayer; she conceived and bore a son, and named him Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked for him from the Lord”.

Samuel grew and started his life under the care and training of Eli, the priest and judge of Israel at that time, just as her mother promised to dedicate him to God.

God began to speak to Samuel from his childhood. His first message from God was quite sobering and was to be delivered to Eli.

The message required that Samuel must announce God’s punishment on Eli’s two wayward sons, Hophni and Phinehas.

Samuel delivered the message as God sent him, but, unfortunately, Eli did not respond with an expected action, rather, he disrespected God. 1 Sam. 3:18

Eli’s disrespect to God did not go well. God told Eli that his descendants would die in their flower age and He would also choose another family to serve in the priestly line.

God’s punishment came on Prophet Eli and his family. The lives of Hophni and Phinehas (Eli’s sons) were cut short as it happened that war broke out in Israel that claimed their lives. Eli also collapsed and died when he heard the news.

The unfortunate event in Eli’s family accelerated Samuel’s position, and he became God’s ordained prophet and the judge of Israel.

Samuel’s Growth and Leadership

As Samuel grew and faithfully conveyed messages from God, it became obvious that God was working through him. He demonstrated great courage during his walk with God, as not seen in his boss, Prophet Eli.

  • Samuel was not afraid to tell the truth of God’s word even when it was not convenient.
  • He successfully led the Israelites to defeat the Philistines, their enemies, and the land prospered under his watch.
  • Prophet Samuel was the one who anointed Saul as the first king of Israel after the people approached him and expressed their willingness to have a king.

Some Lessons from Prophet Samuel

  • Prophet Samuel obeyed God throughout his life, and there was no fault found with him. (It is noteworthy to mention that Samuel, out of all Israelites’ leader, had no flaw recorded about him).
  • As Christians, we must be bold and be firm in following God’s instructions, as this can be learned from Samuel, who did not hold back in telling his boss (Prophet Eli) everything that God was determined to do because of the sins of his family.
  • Christians also must follow God’s instructions to the letter. Our decision to obey God may sometimes make us unpopular, but we still have an obligation to obey God anyway.

There are many more lessons to learn about Samuel as they are explained in details in the book Bible Giants of Faith.

Brace yourself for the next episode as we discuss Peter and the lessons we can learn from his life.
