TRUST EQUALS FAITH – 2 Chronicles

People Must Exhibit Trust In God To Recieve Their Blessing

Passage: 2 Chronicles 20

trust

An exhibition of trust can lead to your blessing! This fact can be more established by studying an event that happened in 2 Chronicles 20. Some hostile nations surrounded the land of Judah with a mission to loot and kill its dwellers. The enemies were numerous, and the scene appeared horrific for the people of Judah and their king, Jehoshaphat. However, Jehoshaphat summoned the courage to preserve his trust in God. He trusted God and prayed for victory. The scripture reported how he prayed,

“O our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You” (2 Chronicles 20:12).

God responded to King Jehoshaphat’s prayer with a promise to deliver him. The king believed the promise and took a rare decision to start praising God immediately.

King Jehoshaphat demonstrated his trust in God by organizing a special worship session to honor God for his victory promise. His trust-action led to a testimony. God was moved with the praises offered by Jehoshaphat and his people during their difficult moment.

God acted in an unprecedented manner to deliver King Jehoshaphat and his people from their enemies.

The bible reported,

“Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated. For the people of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them. And when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another” (2 Chronicles 20:22-23).

God Fights For People Who Exercise Their Faith In Him

God fights for his people, and he will not allow their enemies to rejoice over them. Do not doubt that Jehovah will go any length to defend his people. God’s action against the wicked people may be severe, and perhaps, bring them more destructions than they would have imagined.

Jehovah will fight whosoever allows Satan to use him against his people (God’s people). This should be considered as a great warning for anyone who intends to hurt a child of God. The person should think twice before carrying out his action since God may either defend or revenge any action taken against them.

There are dire consequences for anyone who attacks a child of God!

A believer who reserves his (or her) trust in God during a trial moment should not relent. He should expect to laugh soon and testify to the faithfulness of God.

The fact that God will do whatever necessary to protect his children from any evil should be resonating in our hearts always!

faith

Pray For Grace To Exercise Faith In God

Dear God, I am privileged to be your child! I realized that I am your “choice child” whom you won’t abandon to suffer. You will go to any extent to care and protect me to glorify your name. I firmly believe that you will give me an upper hand over my adversaries and award me a testimony.

Please give me the Grace to keep trusting and remain your true child unto the end. Help me to live in faith so that I can enjoy your victory in every day of my life. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I make my requests. Amen.

JESUS FACES TEMPTATION

A Bible story series run about the life of Jesus Christ adapted from the book Who Was Jesus, Really? By James Taiwo.

JESUS THE MYSTERY MAN – Episode 4

In the previous post, we discussed Jesus’s preparation for his ministry (or purpose – as he called it) and how he went to meet John to baptize him. In this episode, we are going to discuss another major event of Jesus’s life as portrayed in the third chapter of the book “Who Was Jesus, Really? – Book One.” It is about his temptation. So how did it happen?

temptation

Immediately, Jesus left John at River Jordan, the Holy Spirit that had descended on him in the form of a dove lead him into the wilderness where he was expected to fast and pray to prepare for his journey.

A purpose as big as his would require him to acquire more spiritual power; so there he was in the jungle for forty days and forty nights without food or water (that is, he went on forty days dry fasting).

Imagine living an entire day without food. Hard right? Well, Jesus did it for a good forty days! As anyone would predict, Jesus became extremely tired and hungry after those long forty days. The devil decided to tempt him based on his present condition.

The book one of “Who was Jesus Really?” Described the three temptations that Satan gave Jesus and how He (Jesus) was able to overcome Satan’s tricks through the word of God.

The Temptation

The devil took Jesus to a high mountain and showed him all the glory of the Earth. He said he was willing to give it all to Jesus if only Jesus would worship him. Can you see how smart the devil thinks he is?

Jesus quickly rebuked him and said,

“Get thee behind me, Satan! It is written, thou shall worship the lord your God, and him alone shall you serve.”

The devil still didn’t give up. He took Jesus to Jerusalem and set him on a pinnacle—a very high place—and told Jesus to jump. If he was really the son of God, the angels would not let him fall, but Jesus answered,

“Thou shall not tempt the Lord thy God!”

The devil knew he had lost and decided to leave Jesus alone for a while. Then the angels came and gave Jesus food and water. Phew!

Satan’s Intention

The devil tried Jesus’s hunger and thirst and his newly acquired power against him, but Jesus was spiritually smart.

He knew the commandment of God better than Satan. He also knew better than to allow any ego to take over.

Of course, there are many lessons to be taken from this short tale, the majority of which has already been identified in Chapter four of the book.

Perhaps the most important of them all is to understand the word of God as written in the Bible.

An inadequate understanding of the word of God can lead to devastating failure.

Lesson To Learn

If anyone wants to overcome every obstacle and live victoriously in this world of ours, it is necessary to keep God’s word at heart.

What You Gain From Daily Devotions

daily devotion

Daily devotion has some benefits which may not be instantly glaring but have long time benefits. Daily devotion exercise has a long-time benefit, of course, this depends on how persistent a person engage in it!

Keep reading to learn how the exercise of constantly reading the word of God can benefit your life.

Some Benefits of Daily Bible Devotions

Here are some benefits to derive when you engage in daily devotions.

  • You will experience spiritual growth

Have you dreamed of a better relationship with God, wait no longer, just try to engage in a consistent daily bible study and watch your spiritual fire ignited!

To have a good result of any devotional, you have to be consistent. Don’t just engage in a Bible devotion exercise whenever you feel like doing it. Do it as routine!

Perform the task of studying the word of God consistently to have a good result for your soul!

To solidify your blessing with a devotion exercise, add prayer to it. Pray after each bible study and ask the Lord to help you practice what you have learned.

Some people enjoy reading a certain part of the Bible while they abandon others. This practice may not be a bad effort – after all, the word of God was read. However, the fact remains that the practice of focusing on one part of the Bible at the expense of other sections signifies the reader will not have a comprehensive knowledge of the word of God.

The practice of focusing on a certain part of the Bible at the expense of other sections also limits the blessings of the reader.

The need to read every aspect of the Bible for comprehensive knowledge and blessing can’t be overemphasized!

If you really want to grow in your daily walk with God, read every part of the Bible thoroughly! Your daily devotion and other Bible study exercise must include those portions you have considered as “unexciting.”

Read every part of the Bible

Yes, Bible is the word of God, and it is infallible. No doubt that some parts of the Bible create an (immediate) impact than others. For example, reading some books and chapters may sound like a family tree countdown. Other books and chapters may speak straight talk to the heart.

Encourage yourself when you come across those “unexciting” parts of the Bible, and read them. (You don’t get to come across those often. When you do, never skip, keep reading.)

Don’t flip to the next chapter when you feel bored about a section of the Bible. Try to read through until you have gotten to the part that excites you.

Come to think of it, no part of the Bible has lesser significance. The fact that you don’t feel anything emotionally does not mean something positive is not happening to your spiritual life. Also, note that the cumulative effect of reading every section of the Bible is what will eventually aggregate to your spiritual growth and maturity.

  • We Understand God Better with Daily Devotion Exercise

Daily exercise in the word of God connects us with God. The more we read about God, the better our understanding of him will be.

Remember: the better you understand God, the bigger your blessing will become!

exercise

Daily Devotion – A Means of Relating With God

  • Your Interraction God Becomes More Real – with Daily Devotion

Humans made in the image of God have enjoyed a mutual relationship with him in the past, but have since lost the privilege in the Garden of Eden. (Satan manipulated Adam and Eve to sin against God; thereby, lost the relationship.) The same relationship which can be regained through Jesus Christ has to be maintained through a constant interaction of bible study and prayers.

The enemy is still in the business of manipulating people to disobey God; therefore, we must consistently read the word of God and pray!

Without a consistent touch with the Bible study, a child of God can forget the laws of his Master. It is important to keep ourselves refreshed in the devotional exercise.

David stated,

Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You!” Psalm 119:11 (NKJV).

Someone who studies his bible is technically creating an impression that he loves God and is willing to follow his rules.

Bible study exercise simplifies the technicality process of knowing the mind of God and complying with his demands.

Through our devotion to the word of God, we are able to raise a question about any part of the Bible that is unclear. We can seek an answer and have spiritual growth.

Also, through Bible devotion exercise, a child of God can candidly make a pray request that touches the heart of God.

ALL NATIONS TO OBEY GOD’S PRINCIPLES – Ezekiel

nations

All Believers Must Promote And Obey God’s Standards

Passage: Ezekiel 30

God expects all nations on earth to honor him and promote his practices. Obeying Him is a true sign of our love for Him, demonstrates our faithfulness to Him, glorifies Him in the world and opens up the windows of heaven for us. It is important to note that Jehovah hates disobedience. He will judge any rebel nation that promotes sin as they did during Bible time.

Ezekiel prophesied,

“Thus says the Lord: “Those who uphold Egypt shall fall, and the pride of her power shall come down. From Migdol to Syene those within her shall fall by the sword,” Says the Lord God. “They shall be desolate in the midst of the desolate countries, and her cities shall be in the midst of the cities that are laid waste. Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I have set a fire in Egypt and all her helpers are destroyed. On that day messengers shall go forth from me in ships to make the careless Ethiopians afraid, and great anguish shall come upon them, as on the day of Egypt; for indeed it is coming!” (Ezekiel 30:6-9).

obey

God’s Power Is Supreme

God owns the heaven and the earth. He, alone, owns supreme the authority to control all things. Therefore, all nations must promote righteous standards that honor him.

God is strong enough to bring down any nation that violates his rule of holiness. He has a history of dealing with arrogant nations that promote sin.

In the past, God has destroyed nations and brought down empires due to sin. He is still alive to exercise similar judgment on any sinful and unrepentant nations.

No earthly nation should assume it possesses any supreme power; the fact remains that nations come and go, but God’s government will last forever.

Therefore, various earthly nations and governments must appease God with godly practices.

Our government leaders must not promote practices that violate God’s law. They ought to categorize good citizenship with godly practices.

Jehovah will honor any nation and/or citizen that prioritizes his righteous standard above politics and social influences.

obey

Pray For God’s Grace To Promote His Principles

Dear God, please save the earthly nations. The government leaders to prioritize your righteous standard that will invite your blessings. Let our leaders submit to your authority and govern people well. Let there be justice in the land. Let the citizens of the land pursue holiness in exchange for sinful practices. Please let your light prevail over darkness in our land so that your name can be praised always. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I make my requests. Amen.

GOD IS INCOMPARABLE; TRUST HIM – Ezekiel

incomparablePeople Ought To Understand How Incomparable God Is

Passage: Ezekiel 28

Man has limited power that cannot be compared with God’s limitless power. God is greater than us all! Humans have no better option than to reverence God and serve him faithfully, for He is incomparable. It is, however, unfortunate that some people allow the devil to tempt them into comparing themselves with God. The same action that caused him (Satan) to lose his heavenly honor.

Satan attempted to compare himself with the incomparable God in heaven; he failed, and God cast him to the earth. God also immediately pronounced on Satan that he would suffer eternal damnation in hell fire.

The scripture revealed how Satan compared himself with God in heaven and failed,

“… ‘Thus says the Lord God: “You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created. “You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; you were on the holy mountain of God; you walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, till iniquity was found in you. “By the abundance of your trading You became filled with violence within, And you sinned; Therefore I cast you as a profane thing out of the mountain of God; And I destroyed you, O covering cherub, From the midst of the fiery stones. “Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor; I cast you to the ground, I laid you before kings, That they might gaze at you” (Ezekiel 28:12-17).

serve God

Honor God and Watch Him Performing Wonders For You!

Humans need to submit to God and honor him dearly. We must not equate ourselves with God, but we should rather honor him.

There are many reasons why humans must submit to God and serve him. His goodness has no limits. It can be felt in our peaceful atmosphere, beautiful sunshine, pleasant rainfall, and many other resources.

Humans are worthless without God’s support. Our lives are completely dependent on him! The incomparable Father makes our lives beautiful.

The Creator possesses an autonomous power to do whatever he desires. He has the power to make and destroy anything as he pleases. God has control over us all! We must submit at his feet and honor him.

Jehovah will shower his grace and goodness on any person that recognizes his supremacy and serve him adequately! Serve God!

supremacy

Proclaim God’s Supremacy Through The Power of Prayer

Dear God, I am pleased with the fact that you are the God of gods and Lord of lords! You are higher and better than all people. There is no word to express your greatness and supremacy! Please keep me humble to reverence and faithfully serve you every day of my life. Please keep me worthy of your eternal kingdom also. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I make my requests. Amen.

JEALOUSY CAN LEAD TO A DARK PLACE – 1 Samuel

jealousy

True Believers Must Be Wary Of Jealousy And Be Contented Always

Passage: 1 Samuel 22

Christians must always find a way to deal with difficult and rebellious emotions. The Lord clearly frowns at these kinds of emotion. King Saul killed eighty-five priests of God for the sake of David. He also ordered the complete destruction of the city that hosted the priests. The brutal king rationalized that God’s priests supported David to revolt against him. The scripture reported how King Saul attacked God’s servants,

“Then Saul said to him (Priest Ahimelech), “Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread and a sword, and have inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as it is this day?” So Ahimelech answered the king and said, “And who among all your servants is as faithful as David, who is the king’s son-in-law, who goes at your bidding, and is honorable in your house? Did I then begin to inquire of God for him? Far be it from me! Let not the king impute anything to his servant, or to any in the house of my father. For your servant knew nothing of all this, little or much.” And the king said, “You shall surely die, Ahimelech, you and all your father’s house!” Then the king said to the guards who stood about him, “Turn and kill the priests of the Lord, because their hand also is with David, and because they knew when he fled, and did not tell it to me.” But… So Doeg the Edomite turned and struck the priests, and killed on that day eighty-five men who wore a linen ephod. Also Nob, the city of the priests, he struck with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and nursing infants, oxen and donkeys and sheep—with the edge of the sword” (1Samuel 22:13-16).

God Can Help Us Fight Against The Spirit Of Jealousy

Jealousy is evil, and no child of God should allow the spirit of jealousy to possess him or her. The evil spirit does not help anyone, but it destroys anyone who comes in contact with it.

Anyone who realizes any trace of jealousy in his or her life must fight to stop it immediately.

It takes God’s power to overcome jealousy, and every child of God must pray to possess that power. All children of God must not only pray, but they must also refuse to yield to temptations of jealousy.

We can all train ourselves to sincerely share pains, sorrow, joy, and success with our fellows. We must endeavor not to behave contrary to other people’s feelings whether family, friends, or neighbors.

In other words, we ought to be happy when people are happy, and we ought to be compassionate and share in their sorrow. May God help us to possess and demonstrate a good spirit that heaven will commend!

child of God

Pray For Divine Assistance To Run From Jealousy

Dear God, please help me to love other people genuinely. Let me be happy when they are happy, and let me contribute to the success of other people.

Again, I’m asking you, Lord, to help me not to entertain the spirit of jealousy! Do not let me be an object of people’s downfall, but be their object of lifting. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I make my requests. Amen.

JESUS THE MYSTERY MAN – Episode 3

A Bible story series run about the life of Jesus Christ adapted from the book Who Was Jesus, Really? By James Taiwo.

In our previous post, we discussed how Jesus – the wonder child – was found missing by his parent, but was later located in the temple asking the adults some thought-provocating questions about the kingdom of God. Read in this episode about the amazing water baptism of Jesus!

baptism

Jesus’ cousin, John the Baptist, has discovered the purpose of God for his life and had begun to preach the message of repentance to the Jews, and the coming of Messiah, who he claimed, was mightier than him and would save the people of Israel.

Even though John’s message was limited in that it seems God was only interested to save the Jews, but the message wasn’t entirely wrong. The Jews were part of the project, but God’s bigger picture was to save the whole world through Jesus.

John asked people to come for water baptism to show they were willing to accept a new life in God.

John baptized people in the River Jordan. He wanted them to believe their previous sins were forgiven if they would be immersed in the water.

Meanwhile, Jesus Christ, who had never sinned since birth also came to John for water baptism. Very surprising to John!

John the Baptist was overwhelmed by Jesus’ request to baptize him. He protested because he knew Jesus was the promised Messiah that he had been preaching about. But Jesus, being humble as he was, insisted on following through with the baptism.

John had no choice; he had to do what Jesus wanted. But something amazing happened immediately after that!

John and Jesus

What happened when John immersed Jesus in the water?

The Holy Spirit came down on Jesus in the form of a dove as soon as John immersed him in the water. Also, there was a loud voice from heaven, stating, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Can there be any better approval than what Jesus received at the sight of John, his disciples, and others present? Indeed this is the highest form of approval that any man can receive from God!

Jesus has been certified to be the true Messiah who will save the world. This news is not just for the Jews only – but for everyone! Now, people can be saved from their sins. Hallelujah!

There is more to come!

GOD FAITHFULNESS NEVER FAILS – Genesis

faithfulness

Children Of God Must Acknowledge God’s Faithfulness

Passage: Genesis 41

Joseph had a rough life despite his beautiful dreams of becoming a prominent leader someday. Virtually everyone in his life disappointed him. His brothers deserted him and sold him to slavery. Potiphar also jailed him for an offense he did not commit, plus, Pharaoh’s chief butler failed to honor his pledge to help once he regains his position.

However, despite all the disappointments that Joseph experienced, God remained faithful to him. Through his divine arrangement, God elevated Joseph to a position of honor. He became a prime minister of the most powerful nation on earth.

King Pharaoh said to Joseph,

“… Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you. You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you.” And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt” (Genesis 41:39-41).

God Will Remain Faithful

God will fulfill every plan he has for his children, despite any challenges they may face. As true believers of Christ, we have the right access to enjoy God’s treasure to the fullest. Although circumstances of life may rise to challenge us, and we may feel the world is collapsing, the fact remains that God is faithful.

God won’t disappoint us; he will send us help. We may face injustice, and people may force us to pay what we did not owe. Friends and family may desert us and enemies may slander, but God’s faithfulness will not leave us. He will carry us through our challenges and help us prevail.

Jehovah will ensure our hope is not dashed; he will not stop when others have stopped. The Creator will turn every challenge that we face to our stepping-stone of greatness, and those tough situations will become advantageous.

pray

Pray For A Spiritual Turnaround From God

Dear God, I believe that you are the God of gods and Lord of lords. You are strong and able to fulfill your promises in my life. Therefore, I ask that you put me in the book of your remembrance and turn my predicament into a stepping stone of greatness. Let all my life circumstances turn around for my benefit. Use them to elevate me, and lead me in the path that will make your complete plans come to pass in my life. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I make my requests. Amen.

In our previous post, we discussed the miraculous birth of Jesus – a mystery baby whose birth was prophesied years before he came, and of how he was born of the virgin mother Mary but brought up by his foster father, Joseph. But we are yet to learn of his unique and exemplary life.

temple

When Jesus was born, he developed a very special love for the things of God even more than his parents, and this was demonstrated during the annual Passover festival of the Jews. Joseph and Mary, like other Israelites took Jesus to the temple at Jerusalem to celebrate and worship God. They listened for days to the priests about the laws of God and his plan for his people. After the Passover, Jesus’ parents began their journey back to their homes and had spent about three days on transit before they discovered Jesus was missing (traveling between cities in those days took days).

Imagine! Now they had to make a U-turn back to Jerusalem. They were worried and began searching the entire city for Jesus, but they didn’t have to comb for long until they found him in the temple. But what was the young 12-year old Jesus doing in the temple?

When they entered the temple, they were surprised to see a crowd had gathered around the wonder child – Jesus. There he was, asking intelligent and insightful questions about the ways of God from the temple leaders.

Who Was Jesus

People around learned from Jesus’ questions and were astonished as to how such a young boy could know so much about God.

His parents, even though, proud of their son accosted him for having made them worry. What he said was more astonishing. “Don’t you know I would go about my father’s business,” Baby – Jesus said.

He was letting them know that his life would soon take a turn that they might not enjoy. He would dedicate his entire life for the things of God. He had a prophecy to fulfill.

The bible recorded that his father was marveled at those words, and his mother took it to heart. They knew it was a fulfillment of an angel’s prophesy, and what the scriptures have said about the Messiah. So what else did Jesus do, and how did he fulfill the many prophecies about him? Join us in the next post as we reveal it.

GOD ALWAYS PROTECTS HIS OWN – Ezekiel

protects

God Protects Those Who Stay Away From Sin

Passage: Ezekiel 26

Sin caused a rift between God and the Israelites, which caused the Creator to turn His back against his own children. The separation created a vacuum that granted Satan an opportunity to attack the rebel nation. The enemy instigated the neighboring countries to attack Israel since they had lost God’s protection. However, God promised to forgive His children and protect them against those who attack them.

God said to Ezekiel,

“Son of man, because Tyrthe tires said against Jerusalem, ‘Aha! She is broken who was the gateway of the peoples; now she is turned over to me; I shall be filled; she is laid waste.’ “Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Behold, I am against you, O Tire, and will cause many nations to come up against you, as the sea causes its waves to come up” (Ezekiel 26:2-3).

servants of God

Be careful: God Protects His Children!

Humans should learn not to meddle with God’s business. A person who engages in God’s business without proper invitation may regret his (or her action). His action can provoke God if care is not taken. For example, a person who attacks the servant of God may have every reason to justify his action, but he may still end up sinning against God.

Servants of God are primarily answerable to God. We are not allowed to lift a finger against them for any reason unless God told us to do so.

Some servants of God may have committed gross errors, which violates bible standards. Such mistakes can provoke anyone and make us wonder why God still protects them, but a good Christian will take caution not to be hasty in judgment or take an undo action.

Believers must be cautious in dealing with issues that are delicate and can incur God’s wrath. Instead of playing the devil’s advocate and mismanaging your virtues, it is preferable to mind your business.

As Christians, we should devote our religious efforts to gospel evangelization. We should focus more on propagating the gospel to populate God’s kingdom. Every Christian should gauge his or her lifestyles to meet God’s standard of holiness.

The bible states,

“Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby” (1 Peter 2:1-2).
