Simply Understand That Tradition Does Not Equate To God’s Law
(Passage: Matthew 21)
Some traditions promote moral standards, but we must all understand there is no tradition that is comparable to God’s law. Jesus Christ expressed this important teaching as he violated the tradition of his opponent to promote God’s law.
Christ contradicted the unpopular Jewish tradition and disrupted some activities of the temple merchants. Christ, against the order of the day, also allowed people to shout Hosanna to his praise, as the opponents raged.
The action of Christ against the status quo insinuated the enemies’ fury to an extent that they planned for his life. The traditionalist wanted to kill him (but they were incapacitated until his time was ripe).
The following Bible quotes are some examples of Christ’s actions that threw his opponent off guard and they wanted him dead,
“… So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them. They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them. And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David!” (Matthew 21:6-9).
“…Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Hosanna in the highest!” And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, “Who is this?” So the multitudes said, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”
Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. And He said to them “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’”
Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant and said to Him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise’?” (Matthew 21:9-16).
A Child of God Must Be Certain of God’s Law
Children of God must know how to draw a line between any human tradition and God’s divine law. Human traditions are not the same as God’s law.
God’s rule of law is supreme, therefore, all believers must ensure to take it as the highest standard to live by. That is, a good Christian is expected to reject any teaching or practice that contradicts what the Bible established.
For example, our society may portray its liberal view on homosexuality and declare it acceptable, which is not in compliance with Bible standards (Romans 1:24 -27; Mark 10:6-9).
A true believer must obey God’s law, even when the world has rejected it!
Jehovah will honor his children that obey his commandments, as he has preserved his best treasures for us in heaven.
In addition, Christians must understand that we have God’s backing as we make efforts to do his will. The Spirit of God is dwelling in us; no power can force us into subjection. Every Christian has dominion power; no need to yield to Satan’s pressure! (Matthew 18:18).
A person who promotes the law of God and lives by it will have everything to his advantage on earth and in heaven.Click to tweet
Dear Jesus Christ, I receive the power of God to reject heresy and uphold God’s righteousness. Please give me the strength to adopt your law and prioritize it above any human tradition. Let my step of faith leads to my blessing, and let me remain fit for your benefits in this life and in heaven also. Amen!
