True Believers Must Be Ready To Forgive As God Forgives Us
(Passage: Luke 15)
Jesus Christ preached forgiveness and narrated a story of the Prodigal Son to support his sermon. The boy regarded as the Prodigal Son in the story pestered his father to grant him the portion of his inheritance. (He wanted to inherit his father while still alive.) The father was disappointed of his son’s approach, but he granted his wish anyway.
The boy collected his inheritance from his father and travel farther away from home. He visited a foreign land and lavished all he had received. He became poor and suffered. One day, the boy came to his senses and realized how foolish he was to have inherited his father (while still alive) and lavished the resources.
The Prodigal Son acknowledged his mistakes and repented. He decided to return home and beg for his father’s forgiveness. He prepared a persuasive poem for his father as he faces his fate. However, the boy was surprised that his father accepted him back easily and forgave him. The father said to his servants,
“Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry” (Luke 15:22-24).
Forgiveness Is Divine; God Forgives A Repentant Sinner
God will gladly forgive any sinner who repents of his or her sins and turns to him. God and his angels celebrate every repentant sinner. Jesus Christ stated, “I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance” (Luke 15:7).
One of the great attributes of God is the ability to completely forgive a sinner and bless him. Indeed, the Creator is merciful; he is interested in forgiveness than punishing a sinner. Christians should imbibe this great attribute of God and demonstrate it also. We should forgive others as God has forgiven us.Click to tweet
Pray For The Forgiveness Of Your Sin
Dear God, I know you love sinners, I also know you hate sin; therefore, I am determined to repent of my sins and return to serving you in holiness. I am sorry for my past mistakes; please forgive me! I promise to faithfully serve you from now on; please give me the grace and power to do so! Help me to obey your instructions, and please count me worthy of your kingdom. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I have prayed. Amen.
